Fun & Easy Patriotic Crafts!
Hi Friends!! I’m so excited to be writing to you again. The month of May was INSANE and that’s being nice about it! ;) Literally, every single day was just busier than the last! I’m excited to say that we are planning a big house renovation over the summer, and I am so excited to get started on it. I will definitely be posting all the updates here so be sure to keep coming back! Today, I wanted to share about some Memorial Day Fun I had with a few simple crafts and a great, relaxing day with friends and family.
My first task was to hit up my local Michaels over the weekend. This was an amazing idea because they had all their patriotic decor for 50% off PLUS a 20% off your entire purchase coupon! SCORE!! I got the bandanas from Joann’s because they had them on sale for 10 for $10!
I had two blank wreaths that I got a from a friend who had them left over from her wedding and didn’t want them. I jumped at the chance to get these babies!! These are EXPENSIVE! So, it was perfect to create a new wreath with. I learned how to make the bow from this blog post over at Tidbits and Twine blog!
My next project was to use the bandanas I got to make a cute red, white and blue banner. I cut one bandana into 4 smaller squares and cut out the first of the banner pieces. Then I used that banner piece as a pattern to cut out all the other pieces. Then I just ran a little hot glue along the top and ran my piece of twine across and folded over a little fabric to make like a little pocket. You could connect the bandanas to the twine several different ways so do what works easiest for you!
I also found this super fun video on how to make big paper stars out of white paper bags here on the Sits Girls Facebook page! This was the easiest project ever, and I was kind of mad I didn’t think of it first! ;) What isn’t shown in the video is how to hang them. I just punched holes in one end and tied some twine. Then I got the small command hooks and put them up on our outside wall to hang them. That’s what I used to hang the banner too. I now want to experiment and see what else I could make out of these bags and some hot glue!
These jars are just leftover mason jars I had lying around, and I found the burlap pre-made like this at Michaels; added some red, white and blue ribbon, .99 cent flags and some white flowers (from Walmart) that had been slightly dyed for the holiday! I thought these turned out super cute!
And last but certainly not least! We are those crazy dog parents that bought an inflatable pool specifically for our Izzy girl! She absolutely LOVES the water and to swim. As soon as we got it blown up and put the hose in to start filling it with water she jumped up on the side and hopped in. I’m not sure how she even knew it was a pool, but she was in HEAVEN! The hubby had fun tossing her beloved ball into the pool so she would have to go diving for it. She had a blast with that too. I just love watching her run around outside and have a blast. I know it’s going to be even better one day when we bring a baby into this crazy mix! Haha…then we can blame our silly purchases (like this pool) on the baby instead of the dog! ;)
Well, I hope you friends had as great a Memorial Day weekend as I did! Ours was full of family, friends, good food, fire works and lots of pool time! It was a blessing for sure and a reminder of how blessed we are to have the freedoms we have to do the things we love most. I hope you all have a wonderful start to your summer!
