I am so excited to share with you all one of the biggest things that contributed to me starting my own blog so you can learn how you can do it too.
Blogging has always overwhelmed me just when thinking about it. I read so many other blogs and articles on how to start a blog, best tips for blogging, what platforms to use, etc. It literally made my head spin to no end. There is so much that goes into blogging I don’t think people really understand until you’re knee deep in trying to start your own. There were many times when I was “planning” to start a blog that I’d start then give up and say “I’ll try again another time”. I just got so confused by all the things I felt I “had” to know in order to get started that I kept pushing it off. Not to mention I’ve never seen myself as a writer so the entire thing was scary to me!
I finally realized one day, after speaking with several other bloggers about my dreams to start a blog and their tips on the best things to do, that I just had to DO IT! I had to stop trying to make my plans for a blog look like someone else’s blog (that had probably been around for years). It takes a lot of time to build the following, design, products, etc that long-term bloggers have. I’ve only been doing this for 2 months so I’m nowhere close to the level most bloggers are, but I’m better than I was 2 months ago :)
If you’ve ever thought about starting a blog and felt completely overwhelmed like me, I have some good news for you.
I found a wonderful resource from a fellow blogger, Abby at Just a Girl and Her Blog! Abby’s eBook Building a Framework: The Ultimate Blogging Handbook* changed my mind on thinking blogging was too difficult for me. In her book she explains so many aspects when it comes to blogging and making money as a blogger. I never realized how easy it really could be to understand the blogging world. She makes it so simple to grasp and teaches that anyone can create a wonderful blog that, with hard work and dedication, can be just as successful as those long-time bloggers we all follow.
Abby’s book covers everything from setting up a web platform, getting a good responsive theme for your website (the design/look of your site), setting up your site to do good in SEO on search engines, setting up your site to hold ads and make some extra income, how to plan and schedule social media in order to promote your blog posts and much, much more.
Speaking of a learning about getting a good responsive theme, Restored 316 Designs* has helped me to have the beautiful blog I have while also allowing me to customize it to suite my needs! :) I have the Darling theme!
I’ve learned that most bloggers, at some point in their blogging career, felt they had no idea what they were doing or how to get to the next level in their blogging experience. Building a Framework* has helped me to know the steps to take to continually grow my blog at my own pace and not feel completely lost while doing it. Without this book I probably never would have started my blog. I was very close to starting the blog when I came across Abby’s book. However, I was in a place where I felt overwhelmed in getting the design ready and scared to hit publish on the first post. Reading Abby’s book pushed me to wrap up my pre-launch process and just start posting. I’m so glad I finally did.
Two months into the blog and I have a slow and steady pace, but I’m loving being able to have a place to share my heart, things I love and teach others how to make their homes beautiful. This blog is just in the beginning stages of it’s life, but I know with the knowledge I gained from reading Abby’s book* there is a beautiful and adventurous future ahead for Southern Breeze Collections!
I’d love to hear your own blogging struggles or what is holding you back from starting your own blog. Have you read Abby’s book? What did you think?
If not, let me know if you check it out! It was one of the best purchases I’ve ever made! :)
I hope you go check out the book and enjoy it as much as I did. You can start your own blog in no time!
