Happy Tuesday friends!
I’m so excited about this post because I can’t wait to share with you all about this past weekend’s trip to Wilmington, North Carolina.
My hubby and I took my mother-in-law and joined my parents for a fun (and much needed) weekend get-away to the beach in Surf City, NC. I love visiting the coast of North Carolina, specifically Surf City because we get the beach but are also only about 30 minutes from Wrightsville beach (more popular) and historic downtown Wilmington. In case you’re wondering about this town, Wilmington is where the popular shows Dawson’s Creek and One Tree Hill were filmed. Other films, including multiple Nicholas Sparks movies were also filmed in this quaint little coastal town. I absolutely love it in Wilmington so I’ve rounded up some of my favorite spots we visited while there this weekend…Enjoy!
The entire weekend wasn’t very sunny. It was very overcast, but the coolness in the air was perfect. So, the first day we decided to stick around at the beach house we rented and enjoy the cool air, sand between our toes, and let the puppy dogs run free. This is one of the best pet-friendly beaches around.
Next, we headed out to the local pier to take some photos and explore the area :)
Enjoyed time being with my mother-in-law (pictured above) and my mom & dad. My mom is a photographer so she always has that camera around her neck ;)
We had fun exploring this little area and even saw a new bride & groom taking pictures in this same spot. It was so nice out this night so we enjoyed just being with family and relaxing.
Once again we woke up and it was raining, but it eventually moved out around noon. We took the dogs for another run on the beach where they chased birds, dug in the sand and played in the ocean. Then they got a much needed bath :)
I love Wilmington because it’s so historic with all the old buildings, riverside coffee shops, restaurants & fun local stores for shopping. I love walking on the original brick roads and seeing the Battleship from across the river. The battleship is now a museum but we haven’t visited it yet so I’d like to do that next time.
Here are some photos from our adventures in Wilmington.
We had to stop for some pre-dinner coffee so we stopped here at Java Dog Coffee House and it was delicious :)
Enjoying a stroll and our coffee ;) Thanks to my mom for taking our picture
I love the architecture of the old buildings and the location on the water.
In case you’re a One Tree Hill fan, the Port City Java to the left is the location where Brooke’s store “Clothes Over Bros” was set. The tan building is where Karen’s Cafe was set.
This is battleship park. I believe this is where the “river court” from One Tree Hill was located.
This is the battleship memorial museum.
Before we left downtown I had to check out a gorgeous interior design store located in the heart of Wilmington. Although it was a little pricey for my budget, here are few of the goodies I found…
Loved these tiny gold vases.
They would go perfect anywhere in my house!
I loved this lamp too and the coastal look from the actual stand part! Super cute!I’m not sure where I would use this little coastal wagon in my house, but who couldn’t make room for this in your decor? It’s so adorable and could be used for so many things! I may just have to keep my eye out for a more affordable one ;)
Once we left downtown we headed out to Wrightsville beach to have dinner at Oceanic. We wanted to sit outside but they had it shut down due to the wind and the drizzly weather. We did get to enjoy the outside pier though while waiting for our table.
The lighting in the restaurant wasn’t super conducive to the best “foodie” photos but I wanted to showcase a couple of our meals.
My mother-in-law got the Miso Tuna Salad (I’m not a huge fan of (somewhat) raw tuna but she said it was delicious.
I got a southern staple that I love :) Shrimp & Grits
After dinner we stopped to get ice cream for the guys…I was stuffed!
We headed home in the afternoon on day three, but I spent the morning walking the beach with Izzy dog again, getting in the little bit of sun that decided to pop out, and just enjoying the view for a little longer before we left.
Vacations never seem long enough, but it was definitely great to get away for a little down time and time to reflect, dream and refocus. We all need that sometimes. It helps you to get out of a rut and remember why you’re doing what you’re doing, no matter what that is.
I hope you’ll visit Wilmington, NC one day and let me know what you think. It’s definitely one of my favorite spots. Then again, anywhere with a beach is a favorite for me ;)
